Power season 5 episode 5: Kendrick Lamar role revealed!
In a new appearance at the TCA Summer Press Tour on Saturday, show executive producer Courtney A. Kemp noted that the famed rapper will not be playing himself; instead, he is taking on the character of a drug addict by the name of Laces. Lamar is a noted fan of Power and, while the producers were eager to have him on the show, they didn’t want it to just be some sort of stunt casting to get ratings. They wanted to give him something a little more meaty and meaningful. Per Deadline, this character is going to take care of some “dirty work” for 50 Cent’s character of Kanan.
Kemp wouldn’t say as to whether or not there’s potential for Lamar to appear in the future, but we’d love it if the show kept its options open.
Beyond just Kendrick Lamar, Kemp also made it clear that she’s had a plan for how the series will end for a while — even though they’ve been somewhat flexible based on how the series performs:
“I can’t tell you but I will say this, I pitched the show with an endgame in mind … For the most part we know the success of the show might have prolonged the ending but the ending has always been the same.”

As for how long we foresee Power lasting on the air, we don’t really think that there is any particular limit to it. There’s a good chance that it could stick around for many more years if the ratings stay what they are. This is one of the network’s most-popular series and, beyond that, one that generates a lot of critical acclaim and discussion. It doesn’t get the awards recognition that it deserves, but it does just about everything it can to be worthy.
