The Last Ship season 5 announcement coming (reportedly) soon

What in the world is going on with The Last Ship season 5? It’s a question that many want an answer to, but it does appear as though we’re (finally) going to get some more insight on the matter in the near future.

In a post on Twitter, show executive producer Steven Kane confirmed that there will be announcement on the series coming at some point “soon.” When we see that word, our tendency is to think that this means “over the coming weeks,” but we don’t want to put any words in his mouth.

The idea of getting an announcement in the near future, though, does make some sense given that we’re getting close to the month of August and in the event that season 5 does take over the Sunday timeslot after the end of Claws (which feels possible), there is going to need to be some sort of news soon.

Do we understand why there’s been such a delay in getting news on the future of the series? We supposed so, at least through the lens of TNT not having to worry all that much about promoting the final season. Yet, we still wish that there was more attention given to it because we’re talking here about a show that was an anchor for them (pun intended) for many years on the air. It really helped to usher in a new breed of scripted programming for them past some of their cop procedurals and we would like to see it end in a big way with a lot of attention.

Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but no matter what, rest assured that we’re going to continue to cover the series.
