Legacies spoilers: Don’t expect Vampire Diaries’ Kat Graham to appear

Legacies

We had a small sense as to what The Originals spin-off Legacies is going to be like based on Wednesday night’s episode, yet now we’re starting to get more of a sense as to who from the Vampire Diaries extended universe will and won’t be appearing.

We already know that the new show is starring Danielle Rose Russell (Hope) as well as Matt Davis (Alaric). Meanwhile, there are also plans for Zach Roerig (Matt) to make an appearance, based on what executive producer Julie Plec said at San Diego Comic-Con. Given that Caroline helps to run the supernatural school in which Hope and other characters attend, there is always a way to write in Candice King depending on what happens on the new iteration of the series.

Yet, it does not appear as though you are going to get a chance to see Kat Graham back in her famous role of witch Bonnie Bennett. Why? It’s a matter of her own choosing. Here is what she had to say in a new interview with TV Guide:

“Anything is possible, but I will say I spent eight years playing this character and I said to my fans last year when we got the Teen Choice Award that I felt like that chapter is closed. I say that with absolute gratitude and appreciation, but I don’t feel like reprising a character that was almost 10 years of my life. I’m very grateful, but I’m not interested.”

How the new show really leverages some of its connections to the earlier series in the franchise is going to be one of the more interesting things about it. For example, on Wednesday’s episode of The Originals it was clear that Elena has married Damon and now has a medical practice in Mystic Falls; yet, we have a hard time thinking that Nina Dobrev is going to suddenly be making a ton of appearances given that she has another show coming up and she also didn’t even stick around for all of the final seasons of The Vampire Diaries.

In the end, we’re sure that Legacies will figure this out — it really feels like the show was meant for a new generation anyway, so we don’t necessarily think that they are trying to rely simply on Vampire Diaries nostalgia in the first place.
