Good Witch renewed by Hallmark Channel for season 5

Good Witch season 5 renewal

The folks working on Good Witch no longer need to have any concern as to whether or not they are coming back for a season 5 — it’s official.

On Thursday, the Hallmark Channel officially opted to greenlight more of the scripted series, which really does not come as much of a shock at all. Good Witch is one of their most successful scripted shows and in some ways, we’re surprised that the renewal didn’t come even sooner.

In general, we’d say that some of the Hallmark Channel dramas are the most overlooked on cable in terms of commercial success. While they don’t get the ratings of network TV and the awards-show attention of some other cable series, they draw consistently-strong audiences and do enough to make themselves stable presences for a network that has a very loyal following. Good Witch could last for however long it wants to, provided it keeps the numbers relatively close to what they are right now. It feels like there’s a healthy mix of people who watch live and after the fact, and if it can avoid some big drop-off over the coming years, it’s going to be just fine.

Based on the timing of this renewal, Good Witch season 5 is going to be premiering at some point next year. It’s going to be a while before there is any sort of super-substantial news out there about it, but rest assured that it is coming and CarterMatt will be here to give it to you.

Also worth noting…

On Thursday, Hallmark Channel also announced that they are ordering a When Calls the Heart spin-off series entitled When Hope Calls, which is going to be available for their On-Demand streaming service Hallmark Movies Now. That’s a smart move from them to try to draw more attention to their service by using something linked to one of their most-successful properties. When Calls the Heart is about to enter its sixth season on the air.
