Outlander: Sam Heughan talks accents, gym mural on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The interview tonight started with Sam offering to create a fan group name for Kimmel — mostly because that’s a sign of great pride. For example, Sam has his #Heughligans, and they are one of the most passionate group of fans out there.
From there, Sam had a discussion about some of his early career and how far he was willing to go in order to get roles — including lying about some different skills that he had in order to get work. He also discussed filming the movie in Budapest, what it was like going to a popular gym there, and also how apparently the owner of the gym confused him with Alexander Skarsgard. (There was, apparently, a mural painted in his honor there, but the guy thought he was painting it for the star of Tarzan.)
This was a fairly lively discussion, but the real downside to it was that it was so short. It really only lasted for what felt like a few minutes and there wasn’t a promotional clip from the movie or anything else thrown in there. This is why we’d probably love to see Sam do more podcast interviews — they offer up more chances for real, long-form discussions and you can get into a wide array of different subjects. Granted, doing shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live! is probably the biggest way in which you can get exposure in front of the largest possible audience. That’s really what film publicists are looking for.
