The Crown season 3 spoilers: Meet new Prince Charles, Queen Mother!

Crown season 3

The Crown season 3 has just cast older iterations of two of its most important characters — given how important Prince Charles and the Queen Mother are to Elizabeth’s life, it makes sense that the series would not want to wait any longer before announcing these castings.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Josh O’Connor (Florence Foster Jenkins) is going to be appearing through out the third and fourth seasons of the Netflix drama as Charles. He replaces Julian Baring in the role, and had the following to say on the subject:

“I am thrilled to be joining The Firm for the next installment of The Crown … Seasons three and four will follow some of the most turbulent events in the Prince of Wales’ life and our national story, and I’m excited to be bringing to life the man in the midst of it all. I’m very aware it’s a formidably talented family to be joining but reliably informed I have the ears for the part and will fit right in.”

Meanwhile, Marion Bailey (Allied) will be taking on the Queen Mother role, and added the following:

“Wonderful to be joining The Crown. It’s a brilliant show, and we have a tough act to follow, but what a gift to be playing the fascinating and greatly loved Queen Mother. Thrilled to be on board and working with such a top-notch team.”

These two are joining a very impressive cast that includes the likes of Helena Bonham Carter, Tobias Menzies, and Olivia Colman, who is taking over the part of Elizabeth after she was played by Claire Foy through the first two seasons. Telling a different decade of the Queen’s life every season, and also getting different actors every two seasons, is a challenging feat. Not only do these performers have to follow the historical reference, but they also need to deliver something that feels at least relatively accurate to what is already out there and the cast of the first two seasons have set the bar incredibly high.
