Supergirl season 4: How The CW is promoting show’s move to Sundays
Is this a risk? Absolutely, but it is one that they certainly feel is worth taking. The series has a loyal following for starters, and beyond just that there is also the potential to really capitalize on a hole in the entertainment market. Think about what other broadcast networks are doing on Sundays at the moment. CBS is often delayed by football, NBC airs football, Fox airs animated comedy, and ABC is doing unscripted fare. There isn’t a single other English-language network on broadcast TV that is doing a consistent scripted drama at 8:00 p.m. Eastern in the fall. CBS will be there some weeks and that’s it, and their 8:00 show God Friended Me is a total unknown with a different audience.
With this in mind, The CW is smart to take a gamble, and they are clearly also trying to package Supergirl and Charmed as a one-two punch on the night. You can see a little bit of what they are doing with this in the new promo below. It’s mildly funny to see these particular characters together in the same place, especially since Supergirl is featuring her alongside Brainiac, a character we are really only starting to get to know.
Kudos to the network for getting out in front of this and promoting Supergirl early — clearly, it is the show that is the big selling point at the moment. It’s just hard to really gauge a show like Charmed, given that we know that there are so many people out there who aren’t altogether enthused with the idea of the series being remade in the first place. We’ll give it a chance and see what happens.
