Paul Wesley will direct episode of The Originals spin-off Legacies

Just in case you want The Originals spin-off Legacies to have more connective tissue to The Vampire Diariesthis should make you happy.

During the recent Comic-Con panel for the series, it was officially announced that former Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley is going to step into the director’s chair for an upcoming episode of the show. While that may not be the same as seeing Stefan in the flesh to some people out there, we do think that it’s a nice gift to longtime fans still. (Honestly, we also think that Stefan’s story is over, even if the ending of his arc was polarizing. It’s hard to really retcon that without changing the full ending of that show.)

This isn’t Paul’s first foray into directing beyond doing so on The Vampire Diaries. He has also directed Shadowhunters up in Toronto and understands what it’s like working with characters set within this sort of supernatural world.

Beyond just his experience within this industry, we do also think that Wesley will be exceptionally valuable to the cast of Legacies for one other reason: Offering them a chance to really understand what it’s like starring on a show like this and handling some of what comes with it, including the fame and the way in which your entire life changes. Wesley’s been through all of it and was a part of the series for eight years. As a result of that, he can be a good source of wisdom for other people who are still in the process of figuring this out. (Another valuable resource for many of them will be Matt Davis, who was also an essential part of The Vampire Diaries for many years and is a series regular on Legacies.)
