Should Outlander episodes ever screen in movie theaters?

Outlander

At the moment, we do think that people are starting to understand the passion that Outlander fans have. They are some of the most loyal fans out there! They will attend conventions, win People’s Choice Awards, have a huge online presence and create community gatherings in a way many other fanbases do not.

With all of this in mind, there’s one thing that we’re somewhat surprised that the show hasn’t done yet: Movie screenings through a company like Fathom Events, where an episode is screened for a night at movie theaters with some added features included or a special introduction via the cast. This is something that has become quite common for shows like Doctor Who, mostly because it offers up a chance to unite fans and give them a shared, celebratory movie experience. Sure, there is the caveat of paying for something that you can already get with your Starz subscription, but the cost of the ticket is more for the big-screen experience with other fans than the actual product.

Would this be a worthy gamble for Outlander to make? We would say that they should really consider it, especially if you packaged it in a way where one ticket got you a chance to view the season 3 finale, the season 4 premiere, and then maybe a custom intro or some other fun featurette. To go along with that, maybe you station a couple of cast members to surprise people at various places!

In general, we think that community-building should be at the center of the marketing strategy for Outlander because there’s nothing quite like being able to meet other like-minded fans. We’ve noticed this among our own family at home: There’s nothing quite like being able to watch a show you love with other people who love it just as much as you do. It allows you to forge stronger bonds and do something that is fun and social — even while spending a lot of time staring at a screen.

We think that this could be especially fruitful for fans of the series in the Midwest. There’s been a chance for people in New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas recently to celebrate the series, but in places like Chicago, New Orleans, Dallas, or Minneapolis, they haven’t quite gotten these same chances. The same goes for Canada if you could expand it up to some cities there since there are plenty of Canadian Outlander fans!
