Shadowhunters season 3: Luke Baines playing ‘new’ Jonathan
Instead, Luke Baines is set to appear (per Deadline) in some of the remaining episodes as the “true” form of the character, initially referred to as Sebastian before the true secret came out. Per the site, there were previously discussions among producers about having a different actor play this iteration of Jonathan. He is going to be a rather significant foe for Clary and the rest of the Institute moving forward, and given what just happened with Lilith in the first half of season 3, there is potential for things to get very chaotic before the story comes to a close — at least for now.
As many of you out there who have been following the Save Shadowhunters campaign likely know, the series is currently filming two episodes to air alongside the ten that were filmed for the second half of season 3. Freeform is intending these to be a worthy send-off for the series, but at the same time fans are still rallying to get a season 4 to happen at some other network / streaming service. We’ve seen everything from airplane banners to Times Square billboards to even a pedicab at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend. Unfortunately, there is still no word as to whether or not the series will return.
Consider this little bit of casting news as yet another thing to tide you over while you wait. For everyone who is wondering, Baines does have the full support of Tudor himself, who posted a rather lovely message (which CarterMatt has for you below) after the casting news first became official today. Hopefully, there is still a way to factor in Tudor in the future; if this is truly the end, hopefully he will land some other great TV work moving forward.
