America’s Got Talent video: Hans returns for Judge Cuts performance
Let’s kick things off with a quick refresher as to who he is and what he’s all about. He’s a singer, dancer, and accordion player who seems to fancy himself almost as a polka-loving cabaret Boy George. It’s one of the stranger acts of the season, but there is a bizarre sort of infectiousness to what he does. You see that in the sneak preview below via People.
Is he the best singer the competition has ever seen? No, and he’s certainly not the best accordion player or dancer that we’ve ever seen either. Yet, if we were at a club somewhere and Hans came out to perform, we’d have a better time watching him than with a good 80% of the acts this season. He is doing something that you’re not going to get anywhere else and he is clearly a natural entertainer. He likes being out on stage and making sure people have a good time watching him.
As for whether or not we foresee Hans being a major contender in the live shows, probably not but we genuinely do hope that he makes it there. You need acts like this in the live rounds and we’d much rather see him strut around and perform some campy covers than having a rather generic singer or dance crew doing something that we’ve seen on some other iterations of the show over the years. The more variety that we get from this show, the better off it’s going to be in the end — we really only think that there’s a group of about seven or eight acts who have a genuine shot at winning this season. We’d almost prefer that AGT surround them with some really crazy, bizarre acts the rest of the way just for the sake of fleshing out the field a little bit more.
