MacGyver season 3: Why we continue to want more crossovers

MacGyver season 2 finale

If you’ve been reading our MacGyver articles for a while not, you probably are well aware that we’re rather found of crossovers. How could we not be with this show? We’re always going to be a fan of the extended CBS – Peter Lenkov universe, especially since tonally, all of these shows pair up rather well together. There’s a lot of humor, a good bit of action, and above all else, memorable characters we continue to want to watch time and time again. That’s what matters more than anything else.

Yet, we’re also cognizant that moving forward, such crossovers are probably not altogether likely to happen, at least on a regular basis. With Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum PI filming in relatively close to the same place, there may not even be as big of a need to have them happen. We have a feeling that if MacGyver filming in Hawaii, this wouldn’t really be a problem at all. Yet, any time you want to do this you basically have to fly either the MacGyver cast to Hawaii or fly some Hawaii Five-0 people out to Atlanta. That’s a long flight and beyond that, it’s not an easy thing to schedule since there are so many moving parts.

Also, you do of course need a really good idea in order to have this be effective. We do think that there are always missions that could bring everyone together, but is there one that is creatively enticing enough to make all of the production challenges and costs worthwhile? There is a lot to think about.

As of right now, we have not heard of anything when it comes to a full-fledged crossover between the two shows. Yet, we will keep our eyes peeled and if more information on this eventually comes out, we will let you know.

For now, let’s just try to enjoy MacGyver season 3 for what it is! Filming is underway and we’re sure that there is a lot of exciting drama coming from start to finish. The premiere episode is set to air on Friday, September 28.
