Today, AMC has revealed the latest The Walking Dead season 9 teaser leading up to the Comic-Con panel on Friday. It’s exciting, but it doesn’t answer one of the biggest questions: What’s going on with Andrew Lincoln’s Rick?
In general, the status of Lincoln is one of the biggest, strangest mysteries leading up to the start of the season. While there are multiple credible reports out there that the actor is saying goodbye — including confirmation from cast and crew members, past and present (see Chandler Riggs’ take here) — AMC hasn’t confirmed it. Odds are, this is something that they are going to have to address moving into the panel. If they don’t, it’s just going to look odd and like they’re hiding something that they really don’t need to at all.
Ultimately, it is still clear that Lincoln is going to have a big part to play in The Walking Dead season 9 coming up. After all, the actor is featured prominently in the promo art above, and we feel like he’ll still be promoted with regularity moving into the start of the new season. We just wish that we got some more information regarding why Lincoln is leaving and also how the show is ready to usher in what is going to be in so many ways a fundamentally new era. Whether or not the audience continues to stick with them remains to be seen, given that there are so many people who remain to the story because of Rick being at the center of it.
As for what is in the teaser, we get to see Michonne leading the way in a discussion of peace — which could, theoretically, be possible after Negan’s arrest. With that being said, we don’t think anything ever works out within the world of The Walking Dead altogether easily.
