Do Code Black season 3 finale ratings make case for season 4 revival?

The Code Black season 3 finale ratings have officially come in, and they give us now a chance to sound like a broken record on the canceled series.

Wednesday night’s new episode ended up generating a 0.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and, to go along with that, around 5.33 million viewers. In the case of the latter, this was (once again) the top figure of the night. Code Black has won several Wednesdays in total viewers despite having such competition as Big Brother, MasterChef, and last night even the ESPYs on ABC. While it was down slightly in both total viewers and the demo from the week before, this still constitutes to us Code Black ending on a high note.

So is there still a chance at more in the future? Technically, yes. Speaking to Deadline, show executive producer Michael Seitzman confirms that the studio has reached out to numerous streaming homes; yet, there’s no news to share for the time being. We do think that it would be a great fit on a Hulu or some other service in that vein; we’ve also advocated for ABC, but that may just be a pipe-dream scenario.

The fact of the matter here when it comes to the future of Code Black is that really, the numbers speak for themselves in that this is a show that really should not be canceled. They do almost all the campaigning that is needed. The future now really comes down to whether or not a streaming home can see the big picture and whether they feel confident that most of the Code Black faithful would come on board to watch. Our sentiment is that if a streamer knew 100% that almost all of the CBS viewers would subscribe and keep watching, they’d probably order a season 4 in a heartbeat. The issue here is just that uncertainty, since we’ve seen so many times in the past series lose some of their audience when shifting over to a new home.
