The Originals season 5 episode 12 preview: Return to Mystic Falls

The Originals

Want to know what’s coming up on The Originals season 5 episode 12? Let’s start by making it clear that this episode could leave some feeling nostalgic. It’s hard not to when you think about going back to Mystic Falls!

While we know there are certainly elements of The Vampire Diaries that were polarizing, there were also parts of it that were magic. Given that the final season for The Originals filmed before it was known for sure if there would be a spin-off show like Legacies, we’re glad to be making a return there next week. This episode is going to also bring back Candice King as Caroline and Matt Davis as Alaric — in the case of the latter, he will be one of the stars of Legacies moving forward alongside Danielle Rose Russell. We don’t want to call this episode a backdoor pilot per se for the new show (it wasn’t intended to be that), but it’s probably the closest thing that you are nonetheless going to get. While bringing you back to Klaus’ past, after all, it will also propel the story forward moving into the (insert tears here) series finale coming in early August.

Below, The Originals season 5 episode 12 synopsis offers up some more news when it comes to what lies ahead:

RETURN TO MYSTIC FALLS – With Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) facing a life-threatening affliction and deteriorating quickly, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) travels to Mystic Falls to seek help from Caroline (guest star Candice King). Tasked with keeping Hope preoccupied in Mystic Falls, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) comes to a heartbreaking realization about his niece. Meanwhile, at the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, a run-in with Alaric Saltzman (guest star Matthew Davis) throws a wrench into Klaus’ plan. Charles Michael Davis also stars. Rudy Persico directed the episode written by Carina Adly MacKenzie & Julie Plec (#512). Original airdate 7/25/2018.

This episode is entitled “The Tale of Two Wolves,” and that certainly suggests that a battle is imminent. Meanwhile, the series finale is entitled “The Saints Go Marching In,” and much of that song has religious undertones when speaking about the afterlife.
