America’s Got Talent: Voices of Hope choir gets Ken Jeong Golden Buzzer

America's Got Talent

Who was Ken Jeong’s Golden Buzzer on America’s Got Talent Tuesday night? Going into the episode, we knew that he had one, just like every guest does during the Judge Cuts phase of the competition.

Typically, pressing a Golden Buzzer tends to make one person happy. Yet, Jeong had the rare opportunity here to actually make DOZENS of kids happy — think around 70 or so. The Voices of Hope Children’s Choir from Orange Country was the recipient of the Golden Buzzer — it wasn’t at the end of the episode, and with that, the show actually did a pretty good job masking the reveal. Still, it was such a worthy one. These kids were fantastic, they all clearly wanted it, and you could see that they were super-versatile. We do think that there is some genuine hope that they could be contenders, which we certainly would not have said after the first audition.

We’ll admit that we were slightly emotional after seeing this Golden Buzzer moment — we’ve seen tons of these over the years, but there was a sweetness and a purity to this one. It was unexpected, and you could just see in these kids’ eyes how grateful they were. This was a Golden Buzzer about an experience, and celebrating all of the time that they have spent together.

As for how far we see this particular group going, that’s really all up to song choice! We do think that if they continue to doing super-current songs with creative interpretations, they’ve got a real shot at being able to move forward in the competition. We just hope that there are some real chances in order to see that happen, since choirs haven’t done that well on the show in the past.
