The Resident season 2 will have much larger episode count

The Resident

For those who wanted The Resident season 2 to be much longer than the first go-around on Fox, we come bearing some great news!

In a new post on Twitter, executive producer Amy Holden Jones confirmed that the upcoming season (airing Monday nights starting this fall) is going to run for a good 22 episodes. That means that we’ll probably be getting big arcs both in the fall and the spring, unless of course Fox changes things up from what they’ve been doing with many of their other shows as of late.

It’s not a surprise in our mind that Fox would want this much of the Matt Czuchry – Emily VanCamp series for many different reasons. For starters, season 1 creatively was one of the best shows that they had, one that became more and more complicated and fascinating as it went along. There were a number of different twists along the way and a battle between good and evil that you don’t always have within a hospital. It’s one of the few medical dramas that really did feel like a comic book.

Moving into season 2, we know that there are going to be some new characters, but also plenty of familiar faces and some drama that, in the end, is probably going to continue to focus on the issues with modern medicine in America. This is a show unafraid to ask hard questions and figure out ways in which to make you think about things that you would not otherwise. Given that there are some many other medical shows out there, The Resident really needs to have a new approach — we’re lucky that it has one, just as we are also lucky to be able to start checking out some new episodes again come September. We imagine that there are many more updates that you’re going to get along the way, so stay tuned!
