The Resident shows international popularity with worldwide trend
Tonight, we’ve seen the medical drama find itself trending internationally — right in the middle of the summer, more than a month and a half after the first season came to a close over on Fox in America. This was almost entirely based on international airings, and that could mean a lot when it comes to the long-term future of the series. For starters, it gives the studio that much more incentive to be creative and find some ways to keep this show on the air as long as humanly possible. This could also make it so that Fox works even harder to market the series entering its second season. It had a huge premiere after the NFC Championship Game at the start of the year, but the ratings started to slip after that. Things then did turn around again after that, mostly because the story built some momentum over time and started to become more and more addictive.
It’s not all that hard to understand why international audiences would love The Resident, either, especially since it has two stars popular with international audiences already in Matt Czuchry — who of course is well-known thanks to both Gilmore Girls and The Good Wife — and then former Revenge star Emily VanCamp, who is also aided in part by her participation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There aren’t too many details out there about the second season other than the promotion of Malcolm-Jamal Warner to series regular and the addition of Jane Leeves, known for her recent work on Hot in Cleveland.
