Longmire alum Cassidy Freeman joins new HBO – Danny McBride pilot
Just in case you’ve missed Cassidy Freeman on TV on a regular basis, we come bearing good news.
According to a report from TVLine, Freeman (whose TV credits include Longmire, NCIS: New Orleans, Smallville, and The Vampire Diaries) is going to be appearing on HBO’s upcoming pilot The Righteous Gemstones, which is about a passionate family of televangelists and a wide array of various hijinks that they find themselves getting mixed up in. We already heard that Danny McBride (also one of the creative forces behind the scenes, like he was with Eastbound & Down alongside Vice Principals) is going to play the lead character in Jesse Gemstone, whereas John Goodman is set to play his father. He will take part in filming the pilot prior to going back and doing the Roseanne spin-off The Conners. In the event that The Righteous Gemstones is ordered, he will hop back over and take on some more work when it comes to this show after the Roseanne spin-off wraps up.
As for Freeman’s role, she will play Jesse’s wife Amber Gemstone, a woman who at one point had a career in journalism before deciding to move away from that in order to help her husband within the world of the church. We imagine that we’re going to see a lot of scenes between her and McBride, and there is something exciting about this to us given that this is not a role that we’ve seen all that much from Freeman through her career. It’s a chance to stretch herself and try something a little bit different.
Depending on what happens in terms of a series order for this show, we suppose that it’s possible The Righteous Gemstones could premiere in 2019.
Are you excited at all to see The Righteous Gemstones? Let us know in the comments! We’re personally hoping that this show gets a series order, given that we loved Freeman on Longmire and the rest of the cast is equally great.
