CB Strike season 2 renewal: Will it happen over at Cinemax?

Strike season 3Following tonight’s finale, will a CB Strike season 2 renewal happen at Cinemax? Let’s just say that things are a little bit more complicated than they would be with the average show.

Why is that? It’s really due to the source material on which the series is based. CB Strike is based on the Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling) Cormoran Strike novels, and more episodes really get made as soon as there is more story to tell. This is also a British important, and with that Cinemax doesn’t have as much control over this as they would some of their other program. In Great Britain, the episodes within CB Strike season 1 aired effectively as three separate miniseries; they were rebranded and aired at the same time in America.

As for where that leaves things moving forward, we know that there are plans to produce a TV version in Britain of Lethal White, the newest book in the series that is slated to come out a little bit later this fall. (You can read more about it over at the link here.) There is already a lot of hype surrounding this book among its diehard audience, and we really hope that these episodes do eventually come to America.

At the moment, though, Cinemax has not announced plans for the future of the TV series — and, to be fair, it’s probably going to be a while. Given that these episodes have not been made yet, we imagine that it will be late 2019 at the earliest until they arrive on TV. It could be even longer depending on shooting schedules and how much of a window there is for fans to enjoy the book first. We hope that Cinemax will pick up these episodes. While the ratings for CB Strike have not been spectacular, they are fairly comparable with much of what we’ve seen from other shows on the network over the years.

As for the future beyond Lethal White, that still remains a mystery — if season 2 consists just of this book, it’s possible it would be a very short season for American viewers.
