Who is Dr. Al Pollack on Law & Order: SVU season 20? Based on early indications, he could end up being one of the most important people in the life of Amanda Rollins moving forward.

According to a new report coming in via Deadline, George Newbern of Scandal fame has been cast in a recurring role on the upcoming 20th season of the show, where he will be playing the aforementioned character. He is described as a “charming, handsome, and very wealthy doctor” who has been a love interest to Kelli Giddish’s character in the past; meanwhile, they could also have a little bit of a future together. However, the character description here makes us a little bit nervous, given that he is described as having a “wandering eye.”

When reading a casting notice like this, one of the first things that comes to mind is why in the world SVU can’t just go ahead and cast someone for Rollins who isn’t going to break her heart down the road. While it’s possible that Dr. Al is a very different man than he was in the past, we are almost always worried anytime that these sort of situations arise. One of the last things that we want to see for Amanda is that she ends up getting hurt again, especially since that could make life harder for her on the job — and really the rest of her life, to go along with it.

Luckily, we do think that she’s got some very perceptive people around her who may be able to detect if Pollack is not being a good person for her. While she and Carisi may not be love interests (much to the chagrin of some fans out there), we do think that he is going to do just about everything that he can to watch out for her and ensure that nothing happens and she ends up being okay.

It is nice to know about this sort of important character prior to the start of the season, and also that they are going to be tied to a supporting character. We see this as solidifying evidence that season 20 is going to be big for the Rollins character, which we absolutely welcome given that she is one of the most passionate, devoted members of the SVU team.
