America’s Got Talent: Makayla Phillips is Heidi Klum’s Golden Buzzer act
If you were to follow the clues going into the episode, Heidi had done enough to tip off what sort of act it was going to be. We knew that it was an individual, and also someone she praised for their ability to “project” on the stage. This all naturally led to talk that it was going to be a singer, as almost all Golden Buzzer acts from the judges are in the Simon Cowell era.
Makayla is a teenage singer with a great voice, and she picked a very good choice of song in Demi Lovato’s “Warrior.” It is one of the best ones that is from her catalog and she did really nail it. She hit all of the right notes and projected well. Heidi was right!
From here, Makayla will have a chance to move on to the live shows and from here, we’ll get a chance to see how she does. We do think that she has a chance of making it all the way to the finals but we wouldn’t say that it is a guarantee — very little is, and right now we’d say that Courtney is probably the favorite of the golden-buzzer acts we’ve seen. What Phillips does have going for her right now is that she is a very current singer who could do well on the radio today — you don’t always have singers on the show that are this pop-focused. It’s actually interesting that we’re seeing her on AGT rather than some of the other singing shows out there since she could have worked out on any of those.
