Poldark season 4 episode 5: Who died?
After everything that we’ve seen the Reverend Ossie Whitworth do, he finally did get a certain element of comeuppance.
Is Christian Brassington leaving the show? Based on what we saw over the course of the episode tonight, it appears as though the Reverend was murdered by Arthur after learning the truth about Rowella’s affair with the man. This happened in the dead of night, and it came about in a way that made Lady Whitworth extraordinarily furious as she wondered about what happened to him.
In losing this character, there is one thing that we can say for sure: Poldark is losing one of its most-evil, wicked characters we have seen in quite some time. Whitworth was a misogynist, a pig, a sexual abuser, and so much more. He took advantage of Morwenna at just about every opportunity, including at one point trying to get her institutionalized just because of her unwillingness to sleep with him.
At the moment, we certainly do think that Ossie’s death can bring Morwenna and Drake closer together. Unfortunately, it is very clear at present that there is still so much more pain and suffering to potentially come in their direction. After all, Drake is someone with a clear motive to get Whitworth out of the occasion and with that in mind, he has to be considered, at least for right now, a prime suspect in the death. That story officially came to pass at the end of the episode.
As for Poldark itself, we do think that there’s a small void left by losing a character this evil. With that being said, though, it was time. A character as awful as Ossie can only last for so long.
