Claws season 2 episode 5 review: Desna’s happiness ripped away
There was a point in the episode tonight where Desna, at least in terms of her personal life, was feeling as though everything was starting to come together. After all, Dean’s job as a dancer was starting to actually work out for him and beyond that, Gregory proposed! She was finally starting to get some of the things that she didn’t imagine would be possible for her previously.
However, not too long after that, she started to realize that the truth can hurt — and hurt BADLY. The closing minutes of this episode were spent with Desna realizing that Gregory and Zlata together were playing her for a fiddle, making her think she was getting everything that she wanted when she really had no control at all. This is devastating, but beyond just that, it’s a turning point for the rest of the season.
Because Desna kept what she learned a secret, there is now a chance that she can use that against either Gregory or Zlata, when she gets a chance in order to do so. Yet, we’re not at that point just yet, mostly because there are some other issues that are also at hand now. Take, for example, the Renaissance of Uncle Daddy leading to Bryce getting shot. His life is now on the line, with led to the best Uncle Daddy line of the season so far: “I will follow you into the afterlife and track you back myself.” For the time being, his fate remains up in the air.
As for some good news … well, is there some good news? Dean at least seemed to enjoy himself in his debut as a dancer, but that’s about it since the end of this episode contained a mixture of blood and betrayal. Zlata had figured out a way in which to manipulate Desna into weakening some of the people close to her, and hurting her without her even knowing it.
Basically, what we’re trying to say here is that Desna put her trust in the wrong person and now, she has to figure out exactly how to deal with it from here.
CarterMatt Verdict
Overall, Claws season 2 episode 5 was as excellent an episode as we’ve seen this season, and it continues to show that season is not suffering from a sophomore slump in the slightest. This is just as chaotic a season as anything that we had a chance to see back during season 1.
