Outlander season 4: Diana Gabaldon on cliffhanger debate, season 5
Gabaldon spoke to Collider (see the video below) while on the red carpet, and while there she touched on a lot of different things — some related to the show, and some that weren’t quite tied to it at all. She does share her gratitude at the show’s recent renewal (which is through season 6), and also some of the ins and out of the writing process. As many of you out there know already, filming is almost done with the fourth season of the show — and apparently, at one point there was a big cliffhanger planned at the end of it. Gabaldon notes that this was later taken out, but knowing this show we wouldn’t be altogether shocked if it somehow ends up becoming a part of it again. We also, of course, wonder if there could be multiple different endings filmed and production could determine how they want to wrap things up later. (That’s unlikely, but it’s happened with other shows before.)
No matter what Starz decides with the end of season 4, she made it clear on Twitter in response to the interview that she will discuss whatever the cliffhanger was after the season airs.
Gabaldon is of course far ahead of the series still in the writing process, as she has been working for some time on the ninth book in her series in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. Given that season 5 of the show isn’t likely going out until most likely 2020 (at least based on our own timelines for the show), the series is taking its time when it comes to adapting some of her other work.
