Final week of Outlander season 4 filming is here!

OutlanderWe’re officially nearing the end of an era, with that particular era being Outlander season 4 filming in Scotland.

Today marks the final Monday of filming, something that executive producer Maril Davis confirmed in a post on Twitter below. She did note, of course, that the crew’s going to be sticking around for a while since there is so much work to be done behind-the-scenes in post-production. Yet, this is the final week for the cast before they start to head off to do some other things. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe already have some new projects, and to go along with that, we imagine more announcements will be coming via some of the other cast members.

Getting many of the performers back in Scotland on time was a challenge in itself, given that several of them were in Paris over the weekend at The Land Con 2 meeting fans and taking part in panels. They’re now back at work, and while we don’t imagine that there are going to be too many teases when it comes to what they are filming, we imagine that we will get a good sense as to when they are officially wrapped up. The group has been working on the finale for a while, with most of this work being out on location. With this being the last episode, we imagine that it’s going to be larger in scope than most and set the stage for whatever season 5 will look like. The season 3 finale, for example, was effective in that it landed Jamie and Claire in America in the closing minutes.

To us, a big part of what makes season 4 so interesting is that the push for the story, at least for Jamie and Claire, is not about traveling to different continents or Claire moving through time. These two characters are trying to settle more into a stable home and as the story progresses, we will see precisely if they are able to actually do that or develop an incurable case of wanderlust — something that would be understandable given the epic nature of their journey to date.

Outlander season 4 is set to premiere on Starz this November — of course, we’ll have many more updates from now until then!
