Sometimes, a couple of words speak volumes on Elementary, and we certainly had that with the end of Monday’s episode: “She’s back.”
What does that mean? It’s really quite simple here: The writers are willing to bring Moriarty back into the folks now, suggesting that she is the person responsible for causing Sherlock’s father Morland to fear for his life. There are also questions regarding her involvement in Mycroft’s death but unfortunately, there are no clear answers to these at the moment.
What we can say in regards to Natalie Dormer’s future is simply this: If CBS and the show’s producers found a way to make her return happen, they’ve kept it very much under wraps. As a matter of fact, they’ve figured out as many ways as possible to deny that the actress has a role to play in the immediate future. Dormer is extremely busy in between a number of different projects, most recently Picnic on Hanging Rock, and that’s one of the reasons why the show is in this predicament. We’ve always questioned the casting of Dormer for this very reason — she is absolutely stellar in the role of Moriarty / Irene, but she’s always busy and has been for some time. Even back when she was first cast, she was already a part of a very-popular show in Game of Thrones.
If there is some more news on the future of Dormer on Elementary revealed soon, we will let you know. For now, just remember that there are always ways in which to incorporate this character without her actually making an appearance in the flesh. A big part of what makes her so dangerous is that she is the master of finding a wide array of different ways in which to torment Sherlock, and she doesn’t have to be right in front of him to execute many of them.
