STAR season 3 promotes Brandy Norwood to series regular
According to a new report coming in right now via Deadline, Norwood is going to be a series regular moving forward in her role of Cassie Brown, Carlotta’s cousin. Basically, what this could prove to be is a precursor to some massive feuding that is coming up between Carlotta and Cassie for control of much of the Atlanta music scene. That’s somewhat exciting, especially since these are two formidable characters who seem right to have some sort of excellent showdown.
Admittedly, back when Norwood was first cast in season 2 our sentiment was just that it was going to be some sort of stunt casting that wouldn’t last longer than a few episodes, mostly because the former Moesha star and singer is a big name. Also, the Empire / STAR extended universe has shown a real habit for casting notable names who stick around for a given period of time before going away. Casting Brandy full-time is a great coup for the series, and to go along with that, this gives us a little bit more of a sense as to precisely what the third season of the show could end up looking like.
Ultimately, be prepared to see STAR come late September, and we imagine that the airing schedule for the series is going to be reasonably similar to what it is in the past. You’ll probably get a batch of episodes this fall and then following a hiatus that lasts through the winter, another batch in the spring. This is the airing pattern that has clearly worked for Fox over the years, and we don’t believe that they have much of a discernible reason in order to change it.
