Call the Midwife season 8 Christmas Special filming, of course, in summer
As for what the story for the Christmas Special is set to be about this year, there’s still a mystery with that; yet, we can at least say that Father Christmas is a part of it! You can see a small photo tease of that below via the show’s official Facebook page, which is a rather humorous reminder that the BBC series basically needs to be in the most festive mood possible in the middle of Britain’s warmest season. A lot of this just has to do with the way in which filming schedules are organized. It takes significantly longer than a week in order to film new episodes, and that’s why production starts so early. Given that season 8 is going to start airing only a matter of weeks after the conclusion of the Christmas Special, they have to start filming this early.
So what do we want to see? For starters, we don’t want to see Barbara forgotten about so quickly after her death, just as we also would like to see Trixie continue to get better in her recovery after her recent relapse. Of course, we also do continue to find a lot of pleasure in seeing some of the nuns at Nonnatus react to the ever-changing times around them, largely because this is a really big part of the show’s charm to us. It allows the world to move at a slow pace so we can see the tides of change roll in and out. It’s one of the few shows where we never want much change from the end of one season to the start of the next one.
