Overall, this is a rather unusual schedule for Fox given that they are doing these “special premieres” earlier than the start of the normal season. One of the reasons in which this is happening is simply due to the fact that they want to give their shows a boost following some NFL programming — we just don’t understand the value of previewing a new series in REL many weeks before the start of the fall schedule, especially since there’s a chance that viewers are going to forget about it in the process.

Ultimately, Fox is just a network in transition for many different reasons, especially when you think about the fact that they are bringing on WWE SmackDown in the future and that could mean that the entire Friday lineup is going to be displaced. The pressure is on shows like Last Man Standing and others in order to deliver if for no other reason than that it could find itself in some danger again. This is also a network that is still in the midst of a bind after canceling so many comedies and Lucifer.
