Outlander notes: A Saturn Awards win; a new Sam Heughan piece

Outlander

We’ve got a couple of different stories to discuss in our Thursday edition of Outlander notes, but let’s officially kick things off here with some very-exciting news when it comes to the series and the recent Saturn Awards. After all, Outlander was a big winner there!

As confirmed via Twitter below, Outlander received the Best Fantasy TV Series award, which series author Diana Gabaldon was there to accept. Given the sheer number of great shows that are on television right now within this genre, this is a tremendous win and one very much worth celebrating. For Outlander to continue to be so strong in its third season is a sign of the show’s consistency and the strength of the source material that Gabaldon created. Without her words, there would be no show and no awards to be won!

We also do wish in general that there was a little bit more love given to the Saturn Awards given their history of recognizing some of the most-imaginative genres in TV, which also just so happen to be ones forgotten about by others.

While Gabaldon celebrated the series’ win, Outlander itself is currently wrapping up filming season 4 over in Scotland. Hopefully, this victory sets the stage for some more great stuff to come in the future — personally, we would love to see the series receive some Emmy nominations next month when those are first announced. (Rest assured, we’ll have plenty of coverage around those.)

A new piece about Sam Heughan

Scottish outdoorsman and TV host Cameron McNeish recently teamed up with Sam for an episode of The Adventure Show, and we’ve now got a written piece that is very much all about his experiences being out in the wilderness with him. It’s a really lovely read that you can check out over at the link here, as it is a personal account of their experience and also gives you a good sense of Sam’s background and why being out in the Scottish outdoors means as much to him as it does. Consider this one of our favorite show-related pieces of the past few months.
