Chicago Med character spotlight: What does the future hold for Will Halstead?

While Chicago Med doesn’t return until the fall, we want to discuss the future for Dr. Will Halstead. He’s one of our favorite characters because of his kind and loving nature, his determination to always do right by his patients, and the skills he shows everyday as a doctor. We know that he’s made mistakes in the past, but he always finds a way to make it right.

He’s been in a relationship with Dr. Natalie Manning after a season and half of harboring feelings for each other. They’ve have an argument that lead to a temporary break apart and eventually resolved their differences. It was a good step for them to take because it was the first time they had to fight for their relationship and while it was suspenseful for fans, it was great to watch. So what does the future hold for Will? Well, here’s what we think it should include.

A lifetime changing event – We’ve seen the doctors of Chicago Med deal with some very difficult cases and heartbreaking results, but for Dr. Will Halstead there hasn’t been a significant event that’s changed him. He’s dealt with cases that put his career at jeopardy, but nothing that shows the full extent of his emotions. We’ve watch Dr. Manning fight and put in her emotions in cases and we want to Will do the same. We want him to take on a case that challenges him in a way that he never has been. We want to peel back the layer where his true vulnerable and emotional self lies. So why do we want to see this? Because this isn’t a side of him we’ve seen and while we feel like we’ve gotten to know him well over three seasons and we want to know more. We want to get down to the nitty gritty of who is Will Halstead.

Will and Natalie – They had the biggest obstacle of their relationship this past season and as we stated above we liked watching it. So heading into season 4 we want them to tackle another obstacle every couple should. For instance, will they talk about moving in together or will they continue to dive into whether or not the most important person in Natalie’s life, her son, truly wants Will in his life? Now granted Owen is still young, but eventually he is going to understand the situation and Natalie will want him to be as comfortable as possible.
