The Bold Type season 2 episode 5 preview: A diversity discussion

Given that The Bold Type is a series that has the word “bold” in its title, you shouldn’t be shocked to see the series continue to take on some difficult subjects. Moving into season 2 episode 5 entitled “Stride of Pride” airing on Freeform next week, you’re going to see one of those topics play out in diversity — though not in a way that you would typically expect.

Based on the clip below, Jane is going to find herself frustrated when a diversity push seemingly leads her out in the cold. She feels like she’s not getting an opportunity because of that — which, in turn, causes some discomfort among everyone else. This is a tricky situation and we imagine that there are going to be some hard conversations among these characters as a result of it. Yet, this is probably a reflection of issues and conversations that are happening out there and we do think that the goal of The Bold Type is to try and make things as authentic as humanly possible and facilitate discussion.

Kat gets the go-ahead to hire her first addition to the social team, but grows frustrated by the lack of diversity in the applicant pool. Jane feels the sting of her freelance financial situation, prompting a challenging conversation with her friends. Sutton leans into the single life, but finds out that it’s not so easy.

Overall, we imagine that this episode is going to give you a story that will be in some ways a learning experience, and also hopefully hand out a proper understanding as to why opportunities and a wide range of thoughts and feelings are so important for people working today.
