Power season 5 spoilers: New Angela – Tasha alliance forming

Angela Valdez

The idea of Angela and Tasha working together on Power season 5 isn’t the first thing that we would immediately think of, but one of the biggest themes for this upcoming season (premiering Sunday!) is desperate times calling for super-desperate measures. Following the death of Raina St. Patrick, Tasha is in super-protective mother mode. She will anything that she can in order to protect her son Tariq, who is actually responsible for killing his sister’s murderer Ray Ray. That means taking the fall for his death, if it comes to that.

Along the way, it turns out that Tasha is going to need a little bit of help, and that is where Angela comes in due to her position and also the influence that she holds. Also, the premiere synopsis suggests that Angela could find herself mixed up in everything in a far more direct way than she would have anticipated.

Basically, what all of this amounts to is Angela and Tasha putting everything aside from the past, including what happened with Angela and Ghost’s affair, and finding a way to work together. Here’s some of what Lela Loren had to say on the subject to TV Guide:

“Tasha would love to never see Angela again but their fates are inextricably tied together. It’s this interesting circumstance where people who don’t entirely trust each other, who don’t necessarily like each other, have to work together because the predicament they’re in is bigger than all of their petty dynamics.”

Meanwhile, Naturi Naughton added the following:

“This is the year where she has to put aside her issues about Ghost and just be the bigger person and go to Angela for help. But it’s really about power. She needs to have some sort of power when it comes to keeping Tariq out of jail and Angela’s the best resource to use.”

While all of this is going on, Ghost seems to have an agenda of his own: Working alongside Tommy and Kanan in order to take down Dre. Expect the same mixture of action and legal drama that we’ve seen through the first four seasons. It’s what Power does best, and what makes it in turn one of the best series of its time on all of TV.
