Should Blue Bloods season 9 kick off with a time jump?

Blue Bloods season 9

If there is one thing that has become synonymous with Blue Bloods over the years, it is the idea of the time jump as a way to keep the show set alongside where things are in present-day America. We certainly expect that there is going to be a time jump moving forward, just because this is the way in which the show chooses to operate and we haven’t seen them do all that much different over time.

Yet, is this really the best way for the show’s producers to do things? We would say that there is one major reason to not accelerate the story too much at the moment: Jamie and Eddie’s engagement. They haven’t really been together leading up to this big proposal, and in some ways they are going through all of the phases of an early relationship at once. They may know each other very well, but it’s different knowing each other in this capacity. If there is a big time jump, then we end up losing in turn some of the time in which to see these characters growing into this new chapter of their lives. That’s a little bit of a bummer just because we spent so much time getting to this point and we already got robbed on the proposal.

Beyond just that, there’s another Jamko-related reason to not do a time jump: In the event there’s a wedding, we don’t want to have missed it! Or, if nothing else, we don’t want to have missed any of the wedding-planning process at all since it’s a good time to see the family come together and as much as this is a show about police it’s really a show about family too.

Do we think that we could move forward in time and be okay? Absolutely, especially since that is the way of things with this show and it makes sense for the writers to want to touch on current events in some way. We just don’t want to move forward so fast that we miss out on some excitement along the way.
