America’s Got Talent video: Singer Joseph O’Brien’s dating life put front and center
For much of the sneak peek, Heidi Klum leads the way asking a number of questions about how he’s never been on a date, how the right person has never come along, and how he’s never even been kissed (a.k.a. “snogged”) before. From there, he then performs on his piano a pretty lovely rendition of Lionel Richie’s “Hello” that really feels modern despite the song coming out decades ago. He has a soothing, beautiful voice — one that certainly suggests he’s in for a cavalcade of attention on the other side of the show airing. Also, who wants to bet that a producer somewhere was secretly hoping that Heidi would kiss him after the performance? We don’t see the end of it, so the jury is still out on that. All of this does kind of remind us of the American Idol contestant who Katy Perry kissed this past season, and said contestant was then upset about it after the fact.
Anyhow, story gimmicks aside Joseph’s a good singer and has a chance of moving on to the next round. We’ll admit that personally, we’re far more inclined to root for the singer-songwriter-musician performers on America’s Got Talent than some of the kids who belt out a song. It’s not so much a slam on the kids as it is that a guy like Joseph has probably been working on it a lot longer and we get to see a little more personality in his interpretation of the song.
