Blue Bloods season 9 character spotlight: What should lie ahead with Baez?

Despite appearing in more than 100 episodes of Blue Bloods, it still feels like there is so much more that there is to learn about Maria Baez. We know that she is an accomplished detective, but beyond that she’s a loyal friend to Danny and a valuable reason why he is able to do what he does on the job.

So what could we learn about her during season 9? There are quite a few things that CarterMatt would like to see for her.

1. Something fun for her and Danny – We don’t want to see Danny and Baez romantically together, largely because we already have another pair of characters in Jamie and Eddie to fill that storyline of cops in love. However, we do think that there would be something funny that would come with Danny being almost a wingman for her as she goes through more of the dating world in New York City — protective Danny is one of our favorite versions of the character and we think this sort of story would bring out the best for the two of them.

2. Scenes with Marisa Ramirez and some other characters – Why not give us more of Baez and Frank? Maybe there’s a specific case that needs someone special assigned to it and Danny recommends her to Frank; or, maybe Baez is assigned to work alongside Erin on something (as in, maybe she doesn’t want to listen to Danny and Anthony arguing all the time). These are chances to see more of Baez’s own personality, and not just the dimension of her that we’ve come to see when she is around Danny.

3. Something a little more serious – We’ve explored a little bit of her past on the show already, but why not do that more with a case that puts some people she cares about in danger? That would drive her to the point where she is the more aggressive one in her partnership and Danny, in turn, would have to be the one to reel her in. That’s certainly a fun little shake-up from what we usually get.

4. What are some of Baez’s own aspirations? – Does she want to be partnered with Danny for the remainder of the series, or is she interested in something greater? That’s something that we’re also curious in getting some more information about, much like we saw for Eddie during season 8.
