Riverdale season 3: Should series wait to resolve Archie cliffhanger?
Now, the question that you have to wonder from here is just how committed the writers are going to be towards the Archie storyline throughout the upcoming season. How long do you keep Archie behind bars? There’s an interesting case for making him stay there for at least a few episodes, mostly because that could cause some sweeping changes to his personality and also introduce a wide array of interesting reactions from other characters to his plight. You don’t want to make it too easy for him to potentially escape this situation, so with that in mind, creating a good challenge could be rewarding for when he eventually does get out. (After all, we gotta think that Archie is eventually going to escape this situation.)
Now, beyond just Archie being physically located in prison, you have to also think in terms of what this arrest is going to do to the battle between him and Hiram. That’s going to accelerate things and potentially unify other characters against him. It’s certainly going to set up some great material for Veronica and paint even more challenges there.
Do we understand the potential desire to free Archie in the premiere and just build from there? Absolutely, given that Riverdale is the sort of show that may want to get Archie back to his original environment sooner rather than later. That could work, but there has to be some real change that comes along with it. We can’t just look at an Archie that is fundamentally the same as the Archie we saw leading up to the finale.
