The Shadowhunters plane banner flew right over showrunners
In a couple of posts on Twitter today, you can see what both Slavkin and Swimmer have to say about seeing the plane (which flew to Netflix’s headquarters in Hollywood) in the air — it’s certainly a touch of inspiration for them to keep fighting while the show itself fights to get another season somewhere following the cancellation over at Freeform. It’s a powerful move, something that only a powerful fandom could do.
We absolutely have a lot of sympathy for both Swimmer and Slavkin both, given that the challenge that these two have been handed is almost-certainly quite immense. Not only do they have to find a way to deliver on a series that can serve as an ending to the series, they also want to deliver one that leaves room open for a season 4. basically, they want to make sure the option is there so that if Netflix, Amazon, or someone else saves the show, there is plenty of story left to tell. These two knows these characters and this world very well and with that, we’ve got confidence in their ability to pull this off.
Filming for the remainder of Shadowhunters season 3 will begin later this year but for now, there is no precise word as to when a decision would have to be made on a potential season 4. Patience is the first bit of advice we can offer, but determination is the second. Don’t give up if tomorrow rolls around and there is no word that the series has been picked up somewhere else. These sort of things take time — they don’t always produce results, but sometimes they do.
