Hawaii Five-0 season 9 character spotlight: The future of Danny Williams
Danny’s a guy who has certainly been through a lot on the series, but we’re reminded constantly of some of his greatest qualities — his heart, his determination, and precisely how intent he is to ensure that justice is served for every single case that he and the Five-0 Task Force looks at.
The first thing that we want for Danny moving into this season is obviously more of the same, and that means more opportunities to see arguments with him and Steve and high-octane missions throughout the season. These are foundational things for this show and by no means do we ever want to see anything different here.
Beyond the obvious, though, what else should happen for Danny moving into season 9?
More family – Missy Peregrym may be somewhat busy now on the new series FBI, but it would be nice to get one more appearance from Danny’s sister! Meanwhile, why not bring back Vincent Pastore again as Vito? He was a good source of comedy in season 8 and we’re always down for more Five-0 comedy.
Of course, we’re always happy to see more of Danny’s kids when there’s a good way to bring them into the story … so long as they’re not in danger, since that sort of story always just stresses us out.
The restaurant – Of course, we want to see this paid off given that we’ve spent so much time exploring the building of the restaurant already. Beyond the humor that comes with seeing Danny and Steve struggle to make this happen, the restaurant itself can also be another great community gathering place for the series moving forward. It’s a reliable set for the show to use.
Danny’s love life – We understand that Lili Simmons is super-busy these days, but is there a way to at least address Melissa at all? We assume they’re still together but there are so few updates on it that it’s hard to know for sure.
Danny’s past – One of the best Scott Caan performances of season 8 came when we dove into the character’s past in New Jersey and how some of his actions there had widespread consequences in the present. Touching back on his past is absolutely important to getting to know this character better; we also like it since it does shake up some of the natural energy that is here with Hawaii Five-0 at large.
