Timeless season 3: Could series be saved by Hulu, Netflix, anyone else?

Timeless season 2

Unfortunately, the news at this point is starting to reverberate from our brain down to our fingertips: Timeless is canceled — again. This is the second time we’ve been through this and with that in mind, it’s understandable to have hope just because we’ve already seen the show un-canceled once!

Unfortunately, we feel like it’s going to be more of an uphill battle this time around. While it’s already been reported that a two-hour movie to tie the series up is still possible, NBC obviously knew that there would be blowback to ending the show because they couldn’t make it work last time. Financially, it’s a challenging show to make since you’ve got all of the different locations, costumes, and the like. It also comes from an outside studio. That hurts its chances for renewal, but maybe it helps its chances to be saved elsewhere.

Per a tweet from executive producer Eric Kripke, Sony has already been looking to find another home for it elsewhere … and if you’re wondering about some possible destinations in our mind, we’ve got a handful.

Hulu – They are already the show’s official streaming partner, so this makes the most sense on paper. Hulu has saved a show before in The Mindy Project, and Timeless does feel like the perfect series for their binge-watching model.

Netflix – Given that they just saved Lucifer, obviously a lot of attention is going to be put on them. However, Netflix doesn’t actually save shows that often and they don’t already have the rights. (Technically, they didn’t have the rights to Lucifer either, but asking lightning to strike twice is difficult.)

Syfy – This is a fun idea just because on paper, the show seems like a good fit there. However, we’re just not sure that financially, the network could afford it since finances are one of the reasons it ended at NBC.

History – Hey, it is a show about history and it tries to be as accurate as possible. It may have the same issue when it comes to cost, but we think that this could actually be a sneaky-good fit and History has devoted viewers.

Apple – The wild card to end all wild cards. They’re trying to get into scripted content and if they have the money to spend (which they do), this is a way to get their foot in the door.

If you do want to #SaveTimeless, be loud and enthusiastic on social media! Cast a wide net and be relentless. Lucifer really has shown now the way to make it happen.
