Will Roseanne Conner die before Roseanne spin-off premieres?

Roseanne

Will Roseanne Connor die? Now that the news is 100% official that a Roseanne spin-off is coming to ABC, there are many other questions that we have to ponder over. How to write out this character is clearly at the top of the list.

Based on the position that we foresee this series being in, the most-likely outcome feels fairly clear: The producers have to figure out a way to kill this character off, right? The problem that the world of The Conners runs into is rather simple: You don’t want to punish the character of Roseanne Conner for the actions of Roseanne Barr. Yet, at the same time, you can’t tolerate having Roseanne Barr on the show anymore because of a racist tweet.

With this in mind, it makes sense that you cannot just have the character take off somewhere apart from her family. That just doesn’t make any sense for who the Roseanne Conner character is. Instead, killing her off is the one way you preserve Roseanne Conner while also removing her from this messy situation.

If the writers do go this route, there are also many other questions that you have to wonder here. Take, for example, whether or not there is going to be a time jump, or when in the timeline the character will have died over the course of the summer. If Roseanne Conner died earlier this summer (wouldn’t it be weird if the character’s day of death was the same time she got fired?), it’s certainly possible that some of the characters could be in recovery mode by the time the new series airs. Yet, if the death is more recent, there will have to tell a story that is a little more personal and painful for some of these characters. Regardless of how we may feel about Roseanne, these characters do care for Roseanne Conner.
