Vikings season 5: What continues to motivate Katheryn Winnick?
For now, though, Winnick seems perfectly content continuing to put out some of the best work that she can regardless of whatever accolades come her way — in many cases, the work is reward enough. In a recent interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, she had the following to say on the subject:
“For me, the future is about doing the best I can as an actor. I’d be lying if I said it’s not a dream to win a Golden Globe – in fact anyone who says that isn’t telling the truth. But I get enough gratification knowing that I give my best shot.
“The awards are not what drive me. I have friends and family to tell me I’m doing a great job. I have a long way to go, and a lot more to learn.”
We personally feel like Winnick may have one of her best chances at getting a nomination to date for the second half of Vikings season 5 — whenever, of course, it ends up premiering. The recent midseason finale did leave the character off in a rather devastating spot, as she has to come to terms with the death of Astrid and that she also survived herself — something that in many ways, she was not expecting. She’s smart enough to realize that there is a difficult, trying road ahead for her to figure out what her next move should be, and what we love so much about watching Winnick in this role is how she mixes in vulnerability with striking power and confidence.
Beyond just Winnick, there are of course many other performers out there on the show worthy of recognition — for example, just look at everything that Alex Hogh Andersen has brought ever since his arrival to the role of Ivar.
