Pose episode 4 preview: The story of Candy’s insecurities

Want to know more of what’s coming up on Pose episode 4? This is an episode airing next week that should remind you of one thing more so than any other — these characters all have rich, deep humanity that is very much worth exploring. They have moments of confidence and celebration, but they also have moments where insecurities get the best of them. That does make a good bit of sense, given that many of these characters have had difficult lives at times and are treated as outsiders. They’ve formed a community, but every now and then someone comes in who reminds them of some of the fears and setbacks that they once faced in life. This could happen with Candy over the course of the coming episode.

Candy’s insecurities about her appearance are heightened when she is criticized at a ball. Blanca worries when Damon and Ricky have a medical scare that threatens to tear them apart. Written by Janet Mock; directed by Gwyneth Horder-Payton.

In terms of drama, one thing feels fairly clear from some of these details — this is going to be one of the most emotional episodes that we’ve seen to date.

How are the ratings?

The first episode of the series got off to a solid start — it was inevitable that there would be a decrease from one week to the next, and that is precisely what has happened here.

For a little more evidence of that, last week’s episode drew a 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and around 550,000 viewers. While the demo rating was relatively even, it lost a little more than 100,000 viewers from the premiere. If it holds at this live viewership moving forward, we feel pretty confident in the future of Pose to deliver. If it continues to fall, maybe we’ll have some more concern.

The reality here, though, is quite simple in that Pose is the sort of show that is going to need time to build its audience. FX will consider more than just its live+same-day numbers when considering its future, much as they do with many of their series as a whole.
