In the wake of Kim Dickens’ exit from Fear the Walking Dead, signs point towards Lennie James being at the top of the call sheet.
Per a release (and thanks to ComicBook.com for the reveal), the cast for the AMC show is now listed as follows: “Lennie James, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Danay Garcia, Garret Dillahunt, Maggie Grace and Jenna Elfman.” Putting James at the top of the list, even though this is his first season of the show, may be a controversial move to some for that very reason. why not put someone like Debnam-Carey or Domingo at the top of the list, and in doing so honoring their longevity to the series?
Ultimately, it may just have to do with the size of James’ resume and the amount of time that he’s had with the Walking Dead franchise as a whole. He is an outstanding actor and we cannot fault him for that in the slightest.
Regardless of the order of the cast, the big thing that we want to cross our fingers for entering the remainder of season 4 is that some of the show’s longtime cast members still receive a good bit of attention. After all, of the list above only Domingo, Garcia, and Debnam-Carey were around before this season. Maybe it’s possible that Ruben Blades turns up at some point as Daniel Salazar, but that character is almost to this show as to what Heath is to The Walking Dead — we spend the majority of our time thinking about where in the world the character really is.
For the sake of full disclosure, a few days ago we wrote a piece arguing that Fear the Walking Dead should be Debnam-Carey’s show now, and we stand by that.
Fear the Walking Dead returns to AMC this August, and of course we’re planning to have some more news on the series soon after that.
