Hawaii Five-0 season 9: Should Junior’s romantic life make a big change?
Over the course of the past year, the series has done a really great job giving us a chance to get to know this character a little bit better — and, by and large, it’s been a great introduction. I’ve loved that the writers didn’t feel pressure to force Junior into the story right away, and gave us time as viewers to get to know him better. There were a couple of super-notable episodes because of that, including when he was trapped in a hole and revisited the relationship that he had with his father.
As for his romantic life, it was clear that Junior’s had some past heartbreak; yet, there is still some potential for the future. Thanks to that dream “flash-forward” episode, in the mind of Danny Williams Junior and Tani Rey end up getting married. There’s definitely chemistry there between the two characters, and with that it’s easy to imagine a situation where they get together.
Now, is season 9 the time to do that? There is certainly a major case for it in that at this point in the run of Hawaii Five-0, you almost have to live in the now. You don’t know for certain whether or not you are getting a season 10 or beyond, so why hold off on stories that you think could be interesting? (Personally, I think we’ll get at least a season 10, but nothing is confirmed.) You don’t have to pair Junior and Tani up right away, but it feels like this is a season where you set some of the wheels in motion.
There are really only two reasons to consider moving away from this idea — either you’re absolutely confident there will be more seasons and you want to save it, or you don’t want to see Hawaii Five-0 turn into a romantic show. There’s certainly some evidence of that in how little of Steve and Danny’s girlfriends the show has highlighted as of late — sure, you can argue that the actresses are unavailable, but if the writers really were that interested in romance they could’ve just broke those relationships off.
