Roseanne spin-off chatter: Roseanne Barr may sign agreement to clear way for series

Roseanne

It has been a while since there was some formal news on the subject of a potential Roseanne spin-off, but it does still look as though there is a little bit of movement behind the scenes.

According to a new report from Deadline, there are some talks right now between the Roseanne Barr camp and production company Carsey-Werner that will help to ensure the ABC can eventually have some sort of spin-off show without having to worry about Roseanne suing them in the process. There have been many questions regarding ownership of the original series, and whether or not the network can air a new version of the show featuring some of the characters and avoid paying  her every week for it.

The idea right now seems to be for the production company to get Roseanne to sign an agreement that will make it so that she relinquishes her rights to everything related to the show, albeit with some sort of one-time payment involved. This is not exactly what many people want given that the whole basis of a spin-off would be that Roseanne would not be compensated. With that being said, however,it is really ABC who wants to ensure that they do not have to pay her more so than anyone else. if they want to continue the series in some shape or form without a lengthy legal battle, this could be seen as a compromise.

While we do not want to guarantee anything when it comes to whether or not there will be an agreement here, we do think that there’s a strong likelihood that something is going to be done. ABC is probably very much aware of the fact that if they air a Roseanne spin-off, there is a pretty strong likelihood that at least for one week, they are going to make a whole lot of money in the ratings. The curiosity factor alone is going to attract some significant numbers to the network probably on par with the season 10 premiere. With that being said, it’s pretty likely the numbers will go down in subsequent weeks unless  it just so turns out that the Roseanne spin-off ends up being one of the funniest things ever created. Given the amount of time that the showrunners would have to make something new at this point, that’s a pretty tall order.

Once there is some more news regarding the spin-off, we will be sure to let you know. For now, let us know in the comments as to whether or not you would like to see more of these characters.
