The Flash season 5: Hartley Sawyer promoted to series regular
Sawyer (who first appeared on the series early on in season ) will be a regular for the upcoming season premiering this fall — that’s a great turn given that a few episodes out from the finale, it felt as though the character otherwise known as Elongated Man had been killed by The Thinker. This gives us a chance to learn more about Dibny and to see him evolve more from who he was when we first met him.
Ever since his first few appearances on the show, Dibny has had a difficult road to climb — his character was first introduced as a sleazy private eye with a history of breaking the rules and objectifying women. He’s had a lot to learn, but he’s also shown that he wants to grow despite his resistance here and there. He’s a much better man than who he was when we first met him, and season 5 can continue some of that forward momentum and allow him to become a hero even more than we’ve seen so far. We do think that he brings an injection of comedy to the series and his powers are such that the writers can play around a little bit in ways that they can’t with other characters.
We’ve long wondered if Ralph is the sort of person to eventually end up on Legends of Tomorrow given his comic nature and his unusual powers, but for now, The Flash has him firmly locked in. This marks the second major series-regular promotion this week, as the CW series already announced that Danielle Nicolet, who plays the part of Cecile, is also going to be a regular.
The Flash season 5 will premiere on The CW this fall. While we do still have many questions on a number of other subjects, including of course the Big Bad, hopefully these are things that the show will address and/or reveal at San Diego Comic-Con later this summer. This is when many big announcements do tend to come out.
