Sense8 series finale: Show exec on tying together loose ends
In the end, though, this two-hour event was meant as a way to tie together some of the original show’s major loose ends and we do think there was success in that. We feel a pretty good sense of closure over the stories that were told and with that, it feels like everyone can walk away with their heads held high. It doesn’t appear that there is a plan for another revival down the road — to use one popular analogy, everyone left it out there on the field.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, show executive producer Grant Hill had the following to say on the subject of tying together many of the major loose ends from the series and the challenges that came with getting canceled, only to come back and do a farewell movie later:
“It’s tough coming back to doing a finale like this when you’ve been canceled and gone through all of that … We understood and Netflix was very straight-forward and gracious about it, but it’s a hard thing to go through. It always takes a long time, particularly when fans are going crazy and everyone has a different view on whether it’s really gone, but then it got to the point that everyone acknowledged it was finished. So to come back was also hard, because you just finished trying to push it out of your mind.
“Netflix had understandably said from the outset that they wanted something that was a finale. We knew that; they asked us to do that, and so we did it with a good conscience. It was a rush to get it together and get it done, but I think we couldn’t have expected it to have turned out any better.”
Ultimately, we do think that there’s always room for more Sense8 and with that, there’s a chance that the series could continue. Yet, that’s not something that we’re altogether banking on. If it happens down the road it happens, but for now, we’re absolutely happy with the ending that we have.
