Netflix’s The Good Cop, starring Josh Groban, gets September premiere date

Netflix

Given that Josh Groban is a co-host for the 2018 Tony Awards on Sunday night, it understandably made a great deal of sense for Netflix to use this as an opportunity in order to promote their upcoming series featuring the actor in The Good Cop. This series, which got a straight-to-series order many months ago, also features a number of other notable names including Tony Danza and Chicago PD alum Monica Barbaro.

Now, you can see the first teaser for the series below, to go along with the official premiere date of September 21. This show has a bit of an old-school network TV feel to it, which makes the fact that it is premiering in the midst of many other big-time network shows all the more notable. This is a tough spot for Netflix to launch this show, but we have to feel like they’ve got some faith in it. Otherwise, why spend the money in order to advertise during the Tonys?

For those of you who want a little more information on the series itself (understandable), take a look at the official logline via the streaming service below:

In “The Good Cop,” Tony Danza plays Tony Sr., a lovable yet not exactly honorable, former NYPD officer who never followed the rules. He lives with his son, Tony Jr., Josh Groban, a brilliant, straight-laced NYPD detective who makes a point of always following the rules while solving Brooklyn’s toughest cases. This “odd couple” become unofficial partners as Tony Sr. offers his overly-cautious son blunt, street-wise advice.

You don’t really get to see many other shows out there like this that put a father-and-son pair together for some cop hijinks. There will likely be a lot of comedy in here, but we’re willing to wager that there will be some heartfelt, serious scenes mixed in.
